After 9/11 I got involved in an interfaith women’s group and met, for the first time, some Muslim women. I’m pleased to say several have become friends. I’ve learned a lot from them. One thing is about where Muslims live.
I presumed most Muslims lived in the Middle East. Not so. In fact, here are the top three countries for Muslim population:
- Indonesia, 209 million
- India, 176 million
- Pakistan, 167 million
It’s important for reporters to have good information at their fingertips — this comes from Pew Research. It’s also important to understand cultural differences and not write from misperceptions. Spend 10 minutes at this site from Pew and you’ll surely learn something about the religious mosaic across the globe.
